Arousal in the Whisper of Dawn

Through hauntingly silent darkness stir bulbous hangings

in sinewy graces of bowing and salacious slumber

Gentle breezes caress their filament garments as

whispers of awakening dawn conspire to

nudge their tranquility, blush upon fronds

They stir ever so gently, as sleeping ballerina

an inkling of first light subtle, beckoning

Lazy daze a minor miracle, awkward, unfolding

Sweet nectar is the nurture of morning’s dew as

droplets linger hidden, absorbed beneath folds

A thirst for renewal of energy’s hiding in the midst

of stems upon listless stupor; slowly in rising a beauty unfolds

as limbs come unburdened, a dancer in awakening’s sigh

Surround’s early clamber, announces morning, the

brook in its babble, a silent tree fallen

An infancy sprouting, the night slips away

Birds chirrup their slightly muted undertones as

sunup brings an aura and moonlight fading

Budding splendor as a ballerina poised, subdued in

moments of daybreak calling

  1. Morning Don – a real joy… and how truly uncanny the similarity in our last two chosen images for inspiration- mine with the butterfly. “Budding splendor as a ballerina poised…” says so much Don – terrific work and a treat to start my week with… With Best Wishes Scott

    1. Scott, such an honour to receive such kind remarks from you once again! I was really engaged in that butterfly piece! Nature will always be one of my deepest connections in this life. Carolyn Meltzer’s photographic gems really inspire what and how I write. We have both been so pleased with this collaboration! Warmest regards to you Scott.

  2. This has me clamoring to stay awake an extra couple of hours just to see the before-sunrise. Sounds like a lot is happening then, if I just pay attention… Great poem, Brother.

    1. LOL! Carolyn’s photography really gets the muse flowing Michael! Even the simplest of plants are exceptionally captured. I continue to have clients around the globe which necessitates my keeping non-traditional business hours! When we move a little closer to that gorgeous natural beauty I long for the serenity of nightfall where I can step out into the hazy dawn light and marvel at the wonders my flashlight captures, dew drop heavy and awaiting the unfolding.
