Scents of flowering dogwood, jack pine

Fragrant reminiscence on mountain’s brow

Clouds in their mystic, drifting cadence

Melancholy fodder contemplating

Rugged lakeshore’s silent meander

Serenity’s promise in harmony

Watershed tumbles rarefied rains

O’er sands of a parch land awaiting

Solemnities of quiet observance

As trees’ variegated mottle spans

Ranges of towering crag’s meander

Darkened serpentine water’s follow

Lone eagle’s cry a haunting lament

As to the heavens I gaze in wonder

Wind’s whisper mindfulness, heart and soul

As peace upon homeland’s relenting

    1. Wonderful perspective Darlene. I use photos to accompany my writing almost without exception. I chose a visual first and write what I draw from the image. When they are highly complementary to each other the reader experience is truly enhanced. Poetry should paint a picture and for those who are not so inclined visually the photos foster inspired connection without compromising the reader’s interpretations.
